House for an artist
The brief was to transform a 1960s flat into a bespoke two-bedroom home with an adjacent artist’s studio. Working within local building regulations and the statutory framework, we created a two storey flat seamlessly connected to the studio next door.
Large windows in the living area flood the space with natural light, while the carefully crafted wood and steel staircase serves as a sculptural centerpiece, adding both warmth and character. The material palette combines natural and contemporary elements, including warm grey stone tiles, creating a minimalist backdrop that highlights the artwork on display.
Thoughtful design interventions, including cleverly placed crevices for additional windows, enhance light and views throughout. An interior patio acts as a shared exterior foyer, linking the flat and studio and bringing a sense of openness and connection to the design.
